Electrolysis for Hair Removal
Electrolysis isn’t the cutting edge of technology for hair removal. In fact, it’s been around about since the time Edison invented the light bulb, in the late 1800’s.
Millions women and hundreds of thousands of men, however, find that electrolysis is the best method of hair removal for them, even better than the much more modern (and expensive) laser hair removal techniques. Here are a few of the reasons why.
Electrolysis is a process of inserting fine needles into hair follicles. An electric current is zapped down the follicle into the papilla, the nutritional headquarters for grown hair. When the papilla has been coagulated by the electric current, it can no longer supply the root with nutrients.
If the electric current is applied to the papilla when the hair is in a growing phase, the root is permanently destroyed for the rest of your life. The complication with electrolysis (and also with laser hair removal), however, is that there is only a one in three chance of catching hair in its growth phase.
This is why electrolysis for permanent hair removal requires multiple treatments, in some cases over as a long as 3 years (in the case of men preparing for gender reassignment as women, for completely removing facial hair). Electrolysis is not especially painful, but there can be a temporary skin reaction, causing some redness and itching.
The plus side to electrolysis is that it works on any kind of hair structure, whether fine or coarse, and any hair color, even if the hair is lighter than the surrounding skin. Hormones do not affect the results. And once all the treatments are done, body hair never, ever comes back.
