Waxing is a method of removing hair by pulling it out. Wax is a sticky substance that will stick to your hair but not for your skin. Waxing yanks the hair right out of your skin. Waxing hurts, but you only have to do it every few weeks if you do it right. Here’s what you need to know.
Waxing won’t remove peach fuzz. Your hair needs to be ¼ to ½ inch (5 mm to 1 cm) long so the wax will have something to grab onto. If your hair is that long, here are some tips to minimize the pain.
Wash your skin completely before beginning to way. There should be no conditioners, no deodorants, and no perspiration on your skin to keep wax from sticking to your skin. If these aren’t removed, you may have to start all over—after a painful pull.
Cold waxes don’t really work. You’ll need to melt the wax in a microwave, or a double boiler, or an electric warmer. An electric wax warmer can melt the hardest waxes without burning your skin. You also need to be sure to have the fabric strips (muslin) before you start. It’s also a good idea to have a pain relief lotion and a lotion to remove excess wax.
When you have prepared your wax for use, spread it in a strip across the area where you’d like to remove hair, waxing one strip at a time before you proceed. Let the wax harden before you proceed. Be sure to leave at least half of the cloth free so you’ll have something to grab.
When you pull the fabric, keep the skin taut and pull along the skin, not straight up. Rip it fast and the pain won’t last.
Wipe excess wax from your skin with a wet cloth. Baby oil can remove excess was when wax won’t come off with a wet cloth.
